Another week of basketball has come and gone. The California Baptist women remain undefeated and sit atop the WAC standings. In fact, the Lancers continue to creep up the College Insider Mid-Major Top-25 poll. GCU is right behind the Lancers while Utah Valley sits in third. The Wolverines are on pause once again due to COVID issues. What a crazy year 2020-21 has been. But here are some new and notes from this past week.
Newcomer of the Week
Seattle University’s Bree Calhoun is our WAC Hoops Digest Newcomer of the Week for our third weekend of conference play. Last week in two Redhawk victories over Tarleton State the Junior, who spent two years at Moorpark College, averaged 11.5 PPG, 2.5 SPG, 8.0 APG, and 4.0 RPG. In Friday’s 86-54 game one victory she posted an impressive 14 points on 7-9 FG’s (no 3s), 4 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals over 25 minutes. On the year she is averaging 11.9 PPG on 40.8% field goal shooting (62/152) & 10/51 (19.6%) from three point range. Calhoun adds 3.6 RPG, 6.1 APG, and 3.0 SPG to her scoring.

Player of the Week
This week CBU’s Caitlyn Harper & Seattle University’s McKenzi Williams split the award after solid performances over the weekend.
Harper, a redshirt sophomore from Heartland, Wisconsin, averaged 20.5 PPG while shooting 71.4 percent from the field. Harper also hit two 3-pointers and added 12 RPG with 1.5 BPG in a sweep over Chicago State.
She had a big Saturday with 22 points on 9-12 FG’s and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes. On the year, Harper is averaging 13.3 PPG while shooting 52.4 percent from the field and going 9-27 from distance. Harper is also averaging 7.9 RPG, and 1.7 BPG in 22 minutes played. The Lancers are now 14-0 Overall, 6-0 in WAC play.
Williams, a redshirt junior from Auburn, WA, averaged 14.5 PPG while shooting 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point land. Williams also averaged 5.5 RPG, 2.5 APG, and 1.5 SPG in 30 minutes as the Redhawks swept Tarleton State at home. In Friday’s victory she scored 20 points on 6-8 FG’s (4-6 from 3). Williams also added 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals in 20 minutes. On the year, Williams averages 17.1 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 3.2 APG, and 1.7 SPG in 31 minutes played. Seattle is 6-7 Overall, 2-2 in WAC play.

Lancers in collegeinsider.com top 25 poll>>
After their third straight sweep to start WAC play in 2021 the California Baptist University women’s basketball team gained two spots in the collegeinsider.com Top-25 Mid-Major poll released Tuesday afternoon. The Lancers this week check in at No. 11. Also in the poll is future conference member Stephen F. Austin ranked No. 8 after gaining a spot over last week with Abilene Christian receiving votes.
A look ahead>>
New Mexico State and UTRGV were scheduled to play a rescheduled series but the Aggies remain on a COVID-19 pause from just after their series with Grand Canyon University.
Lane Lord’s Vaqueros squad hasn’t yet played a conference matchup and will make their 2021 WAC debut against undefeated CBU at home this weekend. It’s another lunch and WAC women’s hoops matchup with tip set for 3pm Central on the WAC Digital Network, (1pm Pacific) both Friday & Saturday. This matchup was supposed to be three weeks down the road in Edinburg. However, both teams had an opening and agreed to move it up. Now the Vaqueros and Lancers will both be idle on February 12 & 13.
Seattle University visits Chicago State with an opportunity to get above .500 both on the year and in WAC play. This is another lunch special as both matchups are set for 2pm tip offs in Chicago (noon Pacific) on the WAC Digital Network.
Idle this week will be Utah Valley, Tarleton State, New Mexico State, and Grand Canyon.
