California Baptist play-by-play announcer Braiden Bell joins the WAC Hoops Digest podcast on Thursday. Bell talks about the Lancers and what makes CBU so tough despite being new to the Division I level.
CBU head coach Rick Croy has built a culture based on competition. In fact, Bell talks about how Croy might be the most competitive person he has ever been around.
Bell also talks about how COVID-19 has had a positive impact on the Lancers. This is essential considering CBU has a grip of new players on its roster. The players spend more time together off the floor and it has created a bond that will lead to success.
Bell also discusses what led to becoming a broadcaster. Vin Scully who Bell referred to as a poet is one of the reasons he became a broadcaster. The CBU play-by-play announcer is a big Los Angeles Dodgers fan so you can imagine his excitement when the Dodgers won the 2020 World Series.
Other parts of the interview include talking about emotions calling a game, and how excited Bell and the Lancers are for the season-opener at USC on Nov. 25. Bell also brought to light some of his current favorite broadcasters. Joe Buck and Jim Nantz along with Joe Davis who is the new voice of the Dodgers after taking over for Hall of Famer Vin Scully.
