Lancers go crazy from 3-point range in big win over Tarleton
If you’ve been in the WAC for any length of time as a coach, CBU’s 3-point shooting prowess is something you have to prepare for.
However, Saturday afternoon at the Fowler Events Center, that CBU shooting proficiency reached historic status.
In a 97-64 win against Tarleton, the Lancers hit a Division I-high 20 shots from beyond the arc.
Nae Nae Calhoun and Nhug Bosch Duran combined to go 11-19 from 3-point distance in the win, which sets up a big road game at Stephen F. Austin on Thursday.
Race for the Regular Season Championship:
GCU maintained their percentage-points lead over CBU in the regular season title race with a 66-55 win over Abilene Christian on Saturday. The Lopes will visit UTRGV before finishing the week in Nacogdoches at Stephen F. Austin.
SFA, two games back in the loss column, needs to win both games against the top two teams to have any shot at the title going into next week.
Redhawks get big win in Race for Eighth
With two weeks left, there are five teams in Seattle, Utah Valley, Tarleton, UTRGV, and Southern Utah with either four or five wins in WAC play and in the fight for that final spot to WAC Vegas.
Seattle got the biggest win of a team in this group on Saturday with an 82-75 win at UTRGV. Mya Moore had 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead the way for the Redhawks.
Seattle U finishes at UT Arlington on Thursday before taking their final bye on Saturday and hosting Tarleton along with Abilene Christian to round out the regular season.
Gillen’s big game paces Utah Tech as Trailblazers clinch tournament spot
WAC Preseason Player of the Year Breaunna Gillen made a bit of history last Saturday. Gillen set a new career-high with 38 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in an 86-69 win over UT Arlington, which punched the Trailblazers ticket to WAC Vegas, needing just 21 shots to do so.
Gillen now holds the mark for most points scored by a player in the WAC this season, surpassing Chloe Webb’s 37-point performance in CBU’s overtime loss at Abilene Christian.
She garnered this week’s WAC Player of the Week honors for the performance, which also put her across 1,500 points in her career, her second such accolade this season.
Adams wins fourth straight Newcomer of the Week award
UT Arlington’s Gia Adams won her fourth straight Newcomer of the Week award as announced on Monday afternoon after averaging 18 points, four assists, and two steals in a win against Southern Utah and loss at Utah Tech.
Adams now has the lead in Newcomer selections all to herself by one over CBU’s Khloe Lemon and ACU’s Payton Hull.

In his Tuesday morning update ESPN’s Charlie Creme has GCU as a 14-seed, playing UConn in Storrs.
Her Hoop Stats does not do their Bracketology update until Thursday but as of last week their Bracketologist, Megan Gauer, has the Lopes in Los Angeles playing USC. She also has West Virginia in that Los Angeles site, playing Tennessee.
