Home & Garden, Film Room and Other Bullets

A men’s basketball coach who loves the Home & Garden channel more than ESPN? Could that be possible? What about the importance of the ball screen when executing on offense?

Will college basketball start in November? A lot of questions to start this new segment of bullet points.

Home & Garden vs. ESPN

Perhaps Chicago State head coach Lance Irvin does like ESPN. Who wouldn’t? Sports have to be on the top of the list of things to watch for a Division I men’s basketball coach. But, on Cougar Chats, Irvin gave a surprising answer of what his favorite television channel is.

I know that my wife loves the Home & Garden channel, as well. Gives someone a lot of project ideas. Perhaps working on his home or in his garden gives Lance Irvin a peace of mind, especially throughout this crazy time with a lot of unknowns.

Film Room Series

It isn’t too often that a coach will sit and break down film with someone other than his assistant coaches and players. However, New Mexico State head coach Chris Jans is breaking that barrier in a sense. Jans is coming off his third straight WAC Championship and what would have been his third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament had Covid not reared its ugly head. And now, as the days countdown to the 2020-21 season beginning, Jans sits down regularly with Aggie play-by-play announcer Adam Young to delve into the Aggies game film.

In upcoming episodes, Jans talks about ball screen offense and defense as well as discusses former players Zach Lofton, Trevelin Queen and Shunn Buchanan. Check out this new series as it provides a lot of in-depth information and details.

Will College Hoops Start in November?

According to college hoops insider Jeff Goodman, a decision will be made today, Sept. 16, in regard to the official start date of college basketball.

This is a huge decision with a lot of variables in play. And, if the start of the season is pushed back, non-conference schedules may have to be rearranged with some games getting cancelled. Will testing be available on a consistent basis? Will teams have to play in a bubble-like environment? How will preseason tournaments be impacted? What happens when a player tests positive for Covid-19? So many questions. Perhaps the Division I Council will give more details when it votes on the official start date to the season.
