Kansas City guard Jahshire Hardnett called game. Okay, perhaps not. But, he made sure that Thursday night’s WAC opener against Seattle wasn’t going to end on his watch.
Hardnett scored a career-high 28 points to help Kansas City beat Seattle, 90-86 in triple overtime on Wednesday Night in the Swinney Center.
In a game between two of the top-4 teams in the WAC, Hardnett put on an exhibition throughout the overtime periods.
18 of the 28 points were scored over the course of the three overtime periods. And none were bigger than a 3-pointer that sent the game into a second overtime.
Yes a lot of people have beat me to the punch but here is that Jahshire Hardnett (@jahshirehardnet) shot to send the game into double OT. #WAChoops pic.twitter.com/tGEna5tWG4

But Hardnett wasn’t the only hero in a game where eight players scored in double figures. Jordan Giles and Javan White had 24 and 17 points, respectively for Kansas City.
Morgan Means led Seattle with 21 points and nine rebounds. Terrell Brown finished with 20 points and nine rebounds before fouling out in the second overtime. In his first start of the season for Seattle, Aaron Nettles finished with 17 points. Riley Grigsby had a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Myles Carter finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.
But the night belonged to Hardnett. The graduate transfer from BYU put Kansas City on his shoulder throughout the overtime periods. And the Roos held on for dear life in an instant thriller.
Prior to the 3-pointer that sent the game into OT, Hardnett made another crucial play. With Seattle leading 69-65 after Morgan Means hit a pair of free throws, Hardnett went the length of the floor and hit a driving layup and drew a foul to cut the lead to one with eight seconds to play.
And then Hardnett kept Kansas City’s hopes alive with his long three.
Yes, Seattle had a chance to win in the third overtime. However, Morgan Means traveled with five seconds left to play and Rob Whitfield hit a pair of free throws to seal the deal.
Kansas City is now 7-0 at home all-time against Seattle U and 5-0 at home in 2019-20.
The Roos host Utah Valley on Saturday while Seattle goes to Chicago State for a Saturday afternoon tip.
